Fox Running Wild

Forister Exotics Predator Hunts

While the Davis family was at the ranch for their Mouflon hunt they wanted to try something new. None of them had ever been on a predator hunt before so I was hoping we would have a good night to show them how fun and hot the action can be. The first stand I think we shot at 3 different fox before killing the 4th one we had called in. I have predator hunted all over the state for a long time and I know how being a first timer getting accustomed to shooting at night and finding a good rest from the top of a pickup isn’t always easy. So we recovered Jacobs first fox of the night and continued on. A few more stands and things where getting good I think by this time we already had half of a box of shells gone. One stand we had a fox sneak in behind us and I got Les on him and he shot and hit him so he handed the gun to his wife Paula and her first attempt she smoked a fox at 50 yards free handed. Come on guys you aren’t going to let her out shoot you are you i ribbed the guys. We got down and collected the prize of a good stand and moved on to the next stop. On this stand I caught eyes sneaking through the brush next to us and I am pretty sure it was the bobcat I have been seeing in that area. Whatever it was it quickly gave us the slip. After several more minutes of calling I catch eyes bouncing across the valley and the first fox comes bounding in to about 50 yards and Jacob makes a good shot on him. I was getting ready to turn the caller off and I heard another one down wind of us barking. I quickly changed the sound and a few seconds later the fox came racing out to the truck. This time Jacob couldn’t get steady and the fox got away. as we made our way to the next spot the wind picked up to 20+ mph and it made the rest of the evening a little colder and less productive although we shot 3 more times only getting one more fox to add to the pile. At the end of the last stand I spotted a ringtail off in the distance in a tree. I quickly grabbed my .22 and made my way to the tree. The ringtail was trying to come down the tree when I got a shot in him with the .22. He ran over into the cactus near by and I painfully followed. I finally got him pinned down with the gun and ended up having to knock him in the head with it. I retrieved him and showed the Davis family what I think is one of the coolest critters around. By this time it was getting late and we had a Mouflon to tackle in the morning so we called it a night. Congrats on an exciting night of hunting!

Family Mouflon Hunt

Forister Exotics Mouflon Hunts

mouflon Paula

Les Contacted me back in September looking for a Trophy Mouflon hunt for his wife. Didn’t take long and we had the dates set up. Well Sunday November 23 rolled around and Les his wife Paula and son Jacob made their way to the ranch. We discussed some options for their hunt and it was decided it would be fun for everyone to try sitting the first evening together and see what would happen. As with any hunting situation the more people in a blind is usually not for the better. More human odor the urge to talk and laugh and things of that nature is usually not good. But as I returned at dark to pick the Davis Family up they told me they had seen a good number of animals through the evening hunt and even a pretty nice Mouflon Ram. A couple hours later I got the text asking if it was a shooter or not with a picture of a nice Mouflon! Dang cell phone service!! Well we had a good dinner that evening and the group wanted to try their hand at some predator hunting and we did pretty good got a few fox and a ringtail. The next morning we woke to 40 degrees and a slight wind out of the west. I knew the same stand they where in the evening before should be good this morning because I usually see a good number of Mouflon in the are or crossing through it. So around 8 I get a call from Les saying they have a nice Mouflon on the ground. I quickly made my way out to the stand and sure enough they did have a nice Mouflon down. Forister Exotics Mouflon hunts can be conducted in many ways this time it worked out well for a Family to sit together and enjoy watching Paula take her first exotic. Congrats Davis family on a nice Mouflon ram.

Dave came back to Texas to celebrate his 60th birthday and I had his present wrapped up with a bow on it. This was a great elk that we where able to make a great stalk on and with one shot from Dave’s new .280 this Elk dropped in his tracks. An incredible Elk for a great hunter. Congrats Dave on a great Elk hunt at Forister Exotics.

Got Blood?

Through a friend of mine I met the owner of Tazz & Candy Mr. Jeff Beauregard. Jeff and his team of dogs are second to none. If anyone hunting in the Rocksprings or West Texas area and need a dog to find a deer Give Jeff a call. Jeff just bought some property in Rocksprings primarily for Tazz to work. Jeff will be in the area most of deer season and more in the future with them having property in the area now. Visit their site and watch the dogs at work on some of their videos. Don’t let another deer be lost this season. Jeff resides in New Mexico so I would assume anywhere between here and there he would be willing to help out. If you call him tell him where you found him…Forister Exotics. Just doing my part to help any hunter out of a bad situation. I have been there…lost a deer or two over the years just to find him under a flock of buzzards a day or two later. Not a good feeling knowing my odds would have been a lot better with a dog like Tazz working for me. Hopefully you wont need it but take the number write it down and post it at your lodge or camp this hunting season.

First Whitetail of 2014-2015 Season

Forister Exotics Whitetail Hunts

heimer wt2

Well the first weekend of archery whitetail season came and went without much excitement on the whitetail end of things but we finished the 2nd weekend with some excitement. Doug brought his father Louis out for a good whitetail and I think we got a good one. The hunting was really slow and being a bow hunt we didn’t have a lot of options. Doug and Louis sat over a feeder in a popup blind for 2 days seeing tons of deer at one point they had 28 deer in front of them but mostly young deer and doe and a few exotics. Each sit we did something a little different either by adjusting the feed time, run time, corn with the truck, corn without the truck, just trying to coax one of the bigger bucks to make a mistake and come in. The second morning they thought one of the big boys came in and fed before daylight but before it got to legal light he was gone. So after the last morning hunt I asked Doug what he though if maybe we tried to make a couple pushes just to see if we could locate one of the bigger whitetail deer and maybe just maybe make a play on him. Doug and Louis  agreed it might be worth a shot. Well first pass 2 big deer slipped pass out of range so we decided to try again in another spot. Once they got set up I left and got around the pasture to try to push again and I saw a group of good whitetail bucks. I knew it was about to get interesting. I started slowly trying to get them to cooperate and go the right direction. Once I felt they where and would come out to the right opening I proceeded to push them. They got around and came right across in front of Louis and after looking them over he decided this buck was his best shot being closest to him and having a few of the deer already down wind of them he knew they would probably spook very soon. So once he settled the crossbow and got the deer in his sights he let one fly and drove it into the Whitetail bucks shoulder. From where I was I heard the shot and the impact and I thought it sounded good so I made my way up to where they where set up. Doug was congratulating his dad so I knew it must have been a good shot. After a short track job we found this great whitetail buck at the end of the blood trail. All that was left to do was get some pics of the happy hunter and get him to the skinning pole. The deer scored right at the B&C line 172″ Congrats Louis on a whitetail buck of a lifetime!!
