Late Season Whitetail

Forister Exotics Whitetail Hunts

George WT 1

Dave had been down a few times in 2014 and made a trip back to finish out the year bringing a couple of his friends to join him on a late season Whitetail hunt at Forister Exotics. We started out stand hunting and George was after a nice 130 class whitetail buck.  We hunted hard for 3 days seeing a ton of whitetail bucks just not one he was ready to fill his tag on until the last evening. George and Dave where sitting together in the stand and as darkness started to creep in a good whitetail buck made his way into the stand. Both hunters having hunted most of their lives knew it was getting late and this was for sure the best Whitetail that had come in front of them in 2 days but both hunters knew this deer might be a little to big. With it being the last night of the hunt the guys figured they better decide quickly and decided this would be Georges whitetail buck. After picking up and putting the gun down 3-4 times in the deciding process George finally lifted it 1 more time. With shooting light fading George made a good shot and the deer didn’t make it 20 yards. George and Dave made their way down to the deer to find a heck of a 10 point whitetail buck laying dead George told Dave ” I think we might be in trouble”. I had made my way to the gate to the pasture they where hunting and stopped and told myself give them 5 more minutes and thankfully I did. Once we measured the deer we found out they had a 1/4 inch to spare. Congrats George on a great whitetail deer!

Christmas Fallow

Forister Exotics Fallow Hunts

Bobby contacted me back a few months ago wanting to take his son on a Fallow Buck hunt for Christmas. We worked out the particulars and he put his deposit down. We planned to hunt the weekend before Christmas so Bobby and his son made it up Thursday afternoon to get his Fallow hunt started. We got the guys settled in and about 4 that afternoon we made a lap around the pasture to see if we couldn’t find a good Fallow Buck safari style before I put them in a stand I knew the Fallow deer had been coming to. As we got to the back fence line I spotted a small Fallow buck and a bunch of females and I knew the bigger Fallow deer had to be in the area. So instead of spooking them with the jeep I decided to go ahead and stick the hunters in the blind close by and told them they where looking for a big spotted Fallow buck. As I pulled away I spun the feeder a few times on the front of the jeep and headed to the house to wait and listen for a shot. Well I guess it didn’t take very long because before I got to the house they shot and I didn’t hear it due to noise of the jeep and bouncing around in the rocks. I had another group of hunters hunting in the next pasture over and at dark I went to pick them up and sent my Ranch hand Valdo to pick up the Fallow hunters. As I picked up the other hunters they said they heard a shot early so we made our way back over to the house about the same time Valdo was pulling up in the jeep with a nice Spotted Fallow Buck on the rack! As we got out and started to listen to the story it was just a matter of minutes from the time I dropped them off that the Fallow buck came in and this proud young hunter dropped his first Fallow deer in his tracks. You can tell from the video the young man was pretty excited! Congrats and merry Christmas to the Whittington Family santa came a few days early for this young man!

Jamie with Houston Controls brought a group out last month and we put them on some good hunting. The second fall trip was set for this past weekend and early in the week Jamie forwarded me the guest list. 12 hunters and a couple extra maybe to shoot a doe if they can. Ok no problem we got this. first day we wanted to spread everyone out and try to get some animals down and we started quickly. by the end of the first evening we had a few nice Blackbuck down. Second day brought a few more whitetail and Exotics in to the skinning shed. Saturday night we made a few laps with the spotlight and found 1 good axis buck lurking around. Sunday morning we where able to finish up the hunt with a couple of nice whitetail, a fallow buck and a stag. Congrats to all of these great people for their trophies and we thank Houston Controls for another great weekend of hunting and fellowship with some excellent folks.

Elk…Why Colorado when Texas Has it All

Forister Exotics Elk Hunts –

mike Elk 1

For a guy like Mike who had been to Colorado multiple times with little success for an animal that he had desired for many years he was ready to put his Elk on the wall. After an unsuccessful trip to Colorado earlier in the year Mike had an exotic trip booked with Forister Exotics he had mentioned he might be looking for a good Elk bull. Well on the first day of the hunt I told him we had been feeding a couple Elk bulls in 1 pasture here at the ranch and that I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to get on one. I proceeded to tell him about a hunt a month or so before their arrival where we hunted for 4 days in the same pasture and only saw a glimpse of a Elk bull 1 time in those 4 days. So knowing that we might be in for a pretty grueling couple of days I told mike we should hunt early over the spot we had been feeding the alfalfa in that pasture that I thought the Elk bull was hitting it early and then going back into the canyon country in the pasture. So with nothing to show for our efforts the first day we went back the second day and we quickly found the Elk hunt coming together. Mike looked at me as the elk made his way into view and said that’s a nice bull. I told him if he liked that one to go ahead and take him when he was ready. Mike steadied the 300 WSM and cracked the first shot into the morning air. I told Mike to keep shooting till the Elk was down so he wouldn’t get off into the canyon behind the opening and mike sent 2 more rounds down range and the elk fell just before the brush line. Some times a plan just comes together and sometimes you spend 4 days chasing your tail glad this one turned out better than that. We quickly got a trailer and tractor down in the area and made our way to the skinning shed. Congrats Mike on a Nice Texas Elk.

Big Bucks Down

Forister Whitetail Hunts

Jeff WT 1

We had a great group of guys out for 3 days last week looking for good whitetail deer and we landed on some nice ones. Patience was the key as the deer each hunter was after kind of played with us showing up at different stands and we played musical stands till everyone caught up with the deer they were after. The buck in the picture above was one of the larger deer took on the trip and Jeff made a great shot. A long couple of days but these guys hung in there and got some pretty good whitetail for their efforts. A bunch of guys from blacktail country that some of these deer where their very first whitetail way to set the bar high guys. Hopefully next year we have some bigger to chase! Thanks guys and congrats on some great bucks.
