Quick Blackbuck Hunt

Forister Exotics Blackbuck Hunts

Dan Blackbuck

Dan made his way back to Forister Exotics in search of a good Blackbuck. We took a look around the first day and ended up spotting a few good Blackbuck we just couldn’t get close enough to get a shot. After another morning of looking at animals we pulled into one of the pastures and this guy gave us a look. with it being early in the hunt we decided to keep looking. After lunch we came back and fed corn in a couple spots and ended up going after the same Blackbuck we let pass earlier that morning. We managed to catch up to him and Dan was able to get a shot off. The Blackbuck jumped and ran 50 yards or so. We watched him fall and made our way over to him. After we took a few pictures we made our way to the skinning pole. After examining the bullet damage on the inside we where all scratching our heads how this Blackbuck took a single step. We found practically nothing left of the heart. Anyways Dan the man with a great shot and a took a great Trophy Blackbuck back to New Mexico to be mounted. Congrats Dan on a great Blackbuck.

Long Distance Red Stag!

Forister Exotics Red Stag Hunts

doug red stag 2

Doug made his way back to the ranch For another go at Red Stag. Being late season I knew the Red Stag Bulls where in hiding so it might be a long hunt. We started by checking a few spots I had been seeing some Red stag Bulls hanging out only to find a couple young red stag and some hinds. We decided to head for the cedar and see if we could flush anything out into the open. After a couple passes we hadn’t seen any Red Stag that fit the bill. As Doug and I where regrouping and driving to another area of the ranch we spotted some Red Stag bulls just slowly walking a ridge going down into a valley. I didn’t have my range finder but I knew they where far. We spotted a Red Stag that Doug wanted to shoot and I cut the truck off as Doug readied for the shot. Doug let the .270 go and down went the Red Stag Bull as we praised the shot the bull got up and moved through the cedar. We made our way down to start trailing what ended up being a very short blood trail. Later after Doug had left I went back and ranged the shot at 350 yards and realized we probably should have tried to get a little closer. Regardless Doug made a heck of a shot on this Red Stag Bull! Congrats my friend on another good hunt!

Last Whitetail for 2014

Forister Exotics Whitetail Hunts

Dave wt 1

We had Dave down for the first weekend of 2015 last weekend of Whitetail Buck season here on Forister Exotics. We had a game plan to look for a Big 8 or 12 point we had been seeing in a feed location on a regular basis. I got Dave and his son set up in a pop-up blind and fed the setup pretty heavy knowing they where soon to be covered in Animals. I retreated to a high spot to watch the mornings events unfold. As light finally began to creep up on the horizon I could make out a big whitetail buck eating in the middle of the set up. As I waited for a shot I began to tell myself man he better shoot or the 100 animals in the area are going to clean him out and the morning hunt is going to be over. The Buck began to make his way out of the location and finally I hear a shot wring out but from my vantage point I did not see any reaction from the deer so I could tell it was a miss. I figured I better go get them and we could try to track the buck down and try to get another shot. I decided to give it a few minutes and I finally decided to go when I reached up to crank the truck I caught movement off the side of the feed location. No way… I remember telling myself, there’s no way that smart old buck is going to come back for another round! Sure enough here he came back into the corn. This time he proceeded to walk in at 60 yards and make his way directly toward the blind and give the hunter a 30 yard shot. He wouldn’t turn so Dave had to take a front on shot which at that distance should have been quite fine. As the deer trotted away his leg was showing serious damage and we figured he would be down just off the ridge. Once we hit blood we thought we would be in for a short track and we’d have our deer. Well 3 hours later my Friend from BloodTracker Jeff showed up with Taz and we where off on the track job again. After a few minutes we found the blood Taz was on and knew he was on the right track. A few minutes later we see Taz bouncing around a clump of Cedar like a quail dog when he knows the cuvvy is close but just cant quite find them! All of a sudden all hell breaks loose and we are following Taz down into a canyon at a full sprint with the whitetail buck in the lead. As we got to the bottom Taz had this buck bayed up and with no hunter in sight Jeff made the decision to end it with his trusty spear before his dog go the business end of this 12 point up close and personal. Ended up the bullet went in between the shoulder and the body cavity and exited behind the shoulder never hitting any of the vitals. As everyone made their way down to the scene we got the Whitetail buck posed and snapped a few shots with Dave, his awesome 12 point whitetail and Jeff and Taz jumped in to. I did a writeup on Bloodtracker earlier this year and if any of you used Jeff this fall you know what kind of dog he has. Anybody who was fortunate enough not to have to call Jeff just keep that number in your phone for the dreaded day because he is sure to turn your day around thanks again Jeff. It Is a thing of beauty to watch a good dog work and do the job he is bred and trained to do. I know he made Dave’s day a little brighter. Congrats Dave on a great Whitetail Buck and cant wait to have you guys back for spring Turkey.

Blackbuck Down

Forister Exotics Blackbuck Hunts

Dave Blackbuck

Dave had come down to Forister Exotics and taken an Elk, Addax and Axis Buck already in 2014 and was back for a good Blackbuck Hunt. We decided to safari style hunt while the other 2 hunters that came along with him this trip where in the stands hunting their animals in another pasture. We made our way into the back pasture and made a couple laps looking for the blackbuck. After not seeing any Blackbuck for a while we finally spotted one about a mile away in a big open flat. As we made our way around the pasture to try to get to the blackbuck we came across a giant Mouflon standing on the edge of the brush. Dave was tempted to take this mouflon since it was such a brute but decided to move forward and try to get on the Blackbuck. Once we got to the ridge he was on I guess the blackbuck had moved back into the brush. As we sat glassing for him we spotted another blackbuck on the next ridge over and decided to make our way over to him. We got to him and as we approached he made a mad dash for the cedar. I decided to put out a little corn down the road to see if he would come back out and we would get up behind a clump of cedar and wait. Sure enough a few minutes later the Blackbuck made his way out very slowly. The blackbuck finally turned and Dave mad a great shot at over 200 yards. The buck Jumped probably 10 feet in the air doing a half twist back flip and hit the ground running. Dave steadied for another shot and before he could make it the Blackbuck crashed down. We both looked at each other in amazement and after examining the shot we couldn’t believe the blackbuck made the jump and run. Well with another fine trophy to add to the wall 2014 came to close. Thank you Dave and congrats on a fine Blackbuck.

Winter Axis in Velvet

Forister Exotics Axis Hunts

Dave Axis

Dave had come to Texas with Dave and George and wanted to take a nice Axis Buck. I had been seeing a couple Axis Bucks that where hard horned and a couple Axis Bucks in Velvet. So we sat Dave in a popup blind over a watering hole and feed location. It took a couple of days of playing cat and mouse and seeing the big Velvet Axis buck skirt the stand and not give Dave a shot but the same night George got his whitetail The big Velvet horned Axis Buck made his way into the feed and Dave made a good shot and had an Awesome Axis Buck down. Congrats Dave on an excellent Axis Buck.
