Forister Exotics Axis Hunts
Dave had come to Texas with Dave and George and wanted to take a nice Axis Buck. I had been seeing a couple Axis Bucks that where hard horned and a couple Axis Bucks in Velvet. So we sat Dave in a popup blind over a watering hole and feed location. It took a couple of days of playing cat and mouse and seeing the big Velvet Axis buck skirt the stand and not give Dave a shot but the same night George got his whitetail The big Velvet horned Axis Buck made his way into the feed and Dave made a good shot and had an Awesome Axis Buck down. Congrats Dave on an excellent Axis Buck.
Forister Exotics Fallow Hunts
Bobby contacted me back a few months ago wanting to take his son on a Fallow Buck hunt for Christmas. We worked out the particulars and he put his deposit down. We planned to hunt the weekend before Christmas so Bobby and his son made it up Thursday afternoon to get his Fallow hunt started. We got the guys settled in and about 4 that afternoon we made a lap around the pasture to see if we couldn’t find a good Fallow Buck safari style before I put them in a stand I knew the Fallow deer had been coming to. As we got to the back fence line I spotted a small Fallow buck and a bunch of females and I knew the bigger Fallow deer had to be in the area. So instead of spooking them with the jeep I decided to go ahead and stick the hunters in the blind close by and told them they where looking for a big spotted Fallow buck. As I pulled away I spun the feeder a few times on the front of the jeep and headed to the house to wait and listen for a shot. Well I guess it didn’t take very long because before I got to the house they shot and I didn’t hear it due to noise of the jeep and bouncing around in the rocks. I had another group of hunters hunting in the next pasture over and at dark I went to pick them up and sent my Ranch hand Valdo to pick up the Fallow hunters. As I picked up the other hunters they said they heard a shot early so we made our way back over to the house about the same time Valdo was pulling up in the jeep with a nice Spotted Fallow Buck on the rack! As we got out and started to listen to the story it was just a matter of minutes from the time I dropped them off that the Fallow buck came in and this proud young hunter dropped his first Fallow deer in his tracks. You can tell from the video the young man was pretty excited! Congrats and merry Christmas to the Whittington Family santa came a few days early for this young man!
Forister Exotics Corporate Exotic Hunting
Jamie with Houston Controls brought a group out last month and we put them on some good hunting. The second fall trip was set for this past weekend and early in the week Jamie forwarded me the guest list. 12 hunters and a couple extra maybe to shoot a doe if they can. Ok no problem we got this. first day we wanted to spread everyone out and try to get some animals down and we started quickly. by the end of the first evening we had a few nice Blackbuck down. Second day brought a few more whitetail and Exotics in to the skinning shed. Saturday night we made a few laps with the spotlight and found 1 good axis buck lurking around. Sunday morning we where able to finish up the hunt with a couple of nice whitetail, a fallow buck and a stag. Congrats to all of these great people for their trophies and we thank Houston Controls for another great weekend of hunting and fellowship with some excellent folks.
Forister Exotics Elk Hunts –
For a guy like Mike who had been to Colorado multiple times with little success for an animal that he had desired for many years he was ready to put his Elk on the wall. After an unsuccessful trip to Colorado earlier in the year Mike had an exotic trip booked with Forister Exotics he had mentioned he might be looking for a good Elk bull. Well on the first day of the hunt I told him we had been feeding a couple Elk bulls in 1 pasture here at the ranch and that I wasn’t sure how easy it would be to get on one. I proceeded to tell him about a hunt a month or so before their arrival where we hunted for 4 days in the same pasture and only saw a glimpse of a Elk bull 1 time in those 4 days. So knowing that we might be in for a pretty grueling couple of days I told mike we should hunt early over the spot we had been feeding the alfalfa in that pasture that I thought the Elk bull was hitting it early and then going back into the canyon country in the pasture. So with nothing to show for our efforts the first day we went back the second day and we quickly found the Elk hunt coming together. Mike looked at me as the elk made his way into view and said that’s a nice bull. I told him if he liked that one to go ahead and take him when he was ready. Mike steadied the 300 WSM and cracked the first shot into the morning air. I told Mike to keep shooting till the Elk was down so he wouldn’t get off into the canyon behind the opening and mike sent 2 more rounds down range and the elk fell just before the brush line. Some times a plan just comes together and sometimes you spend 4 days chasing your tail glad this one turned out better than that. We quickly got a trailer and tractor down in the area and made our way to the skinning shed. Congrats Mike on a Nice Texas Elk.
Forister Exotics Mouflon Hunts
Les Contacted me back in September looking for a Trophy Mouflon hunt for his wife. Didn’t take long and we had the dates set up. Well Sunday November 23 rolled around and Les his wife Paula and son Jacob made their way to the ranch. We discussed some options for their hunt and it was decided it would be fun for everyone to try sitting the first evening together and see what would happen. As with any hunting situation the more people in a blind is usually not for the better. More human odor the urge to talk and laugh and things of that nature is usually not good. But as I returned at dark to pick the Davis Family up they told me they had seen a good number of animals through the evening hunt and even a pretty nice Mouflon Ram. A couple hours later I got the text asking if it was a shooter or not with a picture of a nice Mouflon! Dang cell phone service!! Well we had a good dinner that evening and the group wanted to try their hand at some predator hunting and we did pretty good got a few fox and a ringtail. The next morning we woke to 40 degrees and a slight wind out of the west. I knew the same stand they where in the evening before should be good this morning because I usually see a good number of Mouflon in the are or crossing through it. So around 8 I get a call from Les saying they have a nice Mouflon on the ground. I quickly made my way out to the stand and sure enough they did have a nice Mouflon down. Forister Exotics Mouflon hunts can be conducted in many ways this time it worked out well for a Family to sit together and enjoy watching Paula take her first exotic. Congrats Davis family on a nice Mouflon ram.
Blackbuck Hunts at Forister Exotics
Doug had a couple of his clients out at the ranch yesterday in search of an Exotic. With multiple animals on the menu we decided to hunt Safari style and just see how it played out. We Looked at some good Mouflon Rams and passed on them and saw some excellent Axis bucks that we just never could get a shot at. After lunch we decided to go back and look for one of the Blackbuck we had see earlier in the day. After looking at him closely we decided to take him. Well you know how that goes about the time you decide to shoot everything runs off! So we tried to keep up with him and eventually lost track of him. As we approached a big clearing where the road forked we noticed a few Blackbuck females crossing and so we figured the buck had to be close. We moved in to get a close look and as we did we found the Blackbuck we were after fighting another male 50 yards in the brush. We waited a few seconds for them to move into a clearing and Eric made a heck of a shot free handed and dropped the Blackbuck in his tracks. Great Job Eric and Congrats on your first Exotic Trophy.
Mouflon Hunts at Forister Exotics
After the shot Doug called it my Mouflon Sales tactic, That is to drive around continuously looking at big Mouflon and the hunter or someone in the truck will eventually say ” I’ll shoot that one” !! Well we had been looking for a couple of fallow bucks for a good part of the day for another hunter in the group and we had already harvested a nice Blackbuck. We kept running into a group of Mouflon and this time I guess they were just tired of running away from us and we got a chance to really look at them and pick out a good old Mouflon Ram. Once we had our Mouflon Ram picked out Doug was quick to pull the trigger and made a tough quartering shot that stopped the Mouflon in his tracks. Once we got up on him we quickly realized we had a a pretty nice old Mouflon on our hands. Congrats Doug and this one will go great on the wall.
